What is Recreation Therapy?
At MediLodge of Grand Blanc, our goal is to help people live better and enjoy life. Our Recreational Therapy (RT) Program uses fun activities to help people gain better skills and function. Due to its methods based on whole wellness, RT has helped many of our residents maintain a better quality of life. As well as maximize skills, RT improves emotional health.
The APIE Scale
The process that therapists use to plan and assess the patient’s needs is called APIE. The acronym APIE stands for the following:
Assessment of strengths and needs.
- Plan for treatment to address individual needs.
- Implementation of activities to address objectives.
- Evaluation of goals at the end of each session.
RT sessions manage the different issues of injury or illness our residents face. Factors taken into account include personal strengths and prior lifestyle. The therapist provides an approach for learning techniques to:
- Increase strength while reducing pain.
- Build physical strength.
- Encourage lifestyle habits that promote wellness.
- Decrease anxiety.
- Restore daily living activities.
For example, an art class can help motor skills through a mind-body connection. The residents remain positive towards the goal while doing something they enjoy. This makes an RT session more eagerly attended than traditional therapy. It’s a win-win all around!
RT has a unique role in the health and human service system. It restores self-care while promoting healthy living. While using leisure activities as a means to recovery, RT helps many residents overcome their challenges.
Of course, if you have questions or would like to schedule a tour to observe an RT session in real time, please contact us. We are always happy to assist you and your family. At MediLodge of Grand Blanc, our entire team strives to focus on better quality of life through healthy activities.
